I build software that gets work out of the way.
I’m Julian, a software developer in Hamburg. I build AI systems and automations for small companies without their own AI team, run them, and show you how to keep going on your own.

Work
A few projects from the last few months. I’ve worked with most of these clients for more than a year.
Aura IntelligenceVoice AI for hotels
I build and run the phone and chat AI for hotels, from the agent and the customer portal to quality control.
Aura answers calls and chats for hotels, around the clock. I own the agent, the customer portal, the chat widget and the API behind them, and I make sure quality gets measured instead of guessed.

B.I.G. Batterie-Industrie-GermanyCustomer service, shop and back office
A battery retailer where AI works in customer service, in the shop and in accounting.
A small team, lots of tickets, data spread across Shopify, marketplaces and JTL. Since 2025 I've been building the AI layer in between: support automation, deposit refunds all the way into the ERP, a battery finder in the shop and invoice checks for accounting.

IT Made SimpleSoftware for the recycling industry
For an IT agency in the waste management industry, I build and run the AI and integration layer, from the ERP adapter to the event app.
Orders from email and WhatsApp, documents straight to DATEV, weighbridge tickets by phone photo, a phone agent and an event app in two days. Plus faster pipelines and an agent setup that lets the team work safely in production.

SounityPersonalized reports
A prompt chain in a chat window became a platform that sells, writes, renders and delivers personalized reports.
Sounity sells long, personalized reports. I turned a manual process into the whole system: pipeline, admin, custom renderer, shop integration, delivery and the email sequence afterwards.

GUTEX SchweizInvoice processing and ERP
Rebuilt invoice processing for Switzerland, brought it to parity and went live without downtime.
GUTEX turns German and French invoices into Swiss documents and ERP postings. I've worked on these systems since 2025, checked every difference against the legacy system and went live in August. Since the fall, France runs through it too.

Friedrich ReportPlatform migration
A paid finance newsletter moves from Ghost to its own Rails platform without losing a single member.
Rails takes over login, members, Stripe subscriptions, courses and audio articles. Ghost stays for what it's good at: writing and sending. Tens of thousands of members migrated, zero discrepancies.

PASSAG3
Logistics platform for ocean freight
Turned a quickly built prototype into a platform a shipping line runs its bookings and bills of lading on.
PASSAG3 is an operations platform for ocean freight carriers: partners, tariffs, quotes, bookings, transport plans and bills of lading in one system. I made it production-ready: deployment, security, data integrity, monitoring, backups and daily verification by agents.

Pastefast
macOS clipboard app close to release
Everything you copy sits on a shelf and is instantly searchable, including text from screenshots. Passwords and secrets stay out.
B.I.G.
Support AI is tested against real answers
New reply suggestions first run against past answers from the support team before they go live. That way the team sees up front whether the AI actually helps.
Sounity
Report emails, edited without a developer
The team now edits the copy and buttons of the email sequences in the admin themselves. New sign-ups confirm their address before the report goes out.
Aura Intelligence
Phone assistant suggests matching packages first
If the hotel wants it, the AI on the phone suggests packages before offering individual rooms. Each hotel turns this on in the portal.
B.I.G.
Does the battery fit? Check it in the shop
On the product page, customers see whether the battery fits their vehicle, with warnings and technical data. Fewer wrong purchases, fewer support questions.
Aura Intelligence
Excursions and weekly program in the hotel chat
Guests ask the chat about activities and get matching experiences as cards with dates. Hotels enable this per property in the portal.
Friedrich Report
Own CMS for jobs and articles
The editors now manage job listings and versioned articles in their own platform instead of Ghost. One system fewer, everything in one place.
AskTNT
Search the podcast archive from inside Claude
A public MCP connector makes the TWUP archive searchable for AI assistants. Every answer links to the matching episode.
Sounity
Personalized reports, live at a trade fair booth
Visitors fill in a short form on a tablet and read their personal report moments later. The readable version shows up before the PDF is done.
GUTEX
Invoicing system now handles France too
French invoices, cancellations included, now run through the same system as the Swiss ones. Accounting maintains the ledger accounts itself.
What clients say
He approaches tasks step by step and implements them with good judgment. A clear recommendation for anyone who doesn’t know where to start with automation and wants support from the first process sketch to the finished build.
Patrick Niehus
Managing Director, B.I.G.
He contributed a significant part to Aura’s success and put AI agents to profitable use that create real value every single day. He understands the big picture from backend to frontend. Highly recommended.
Jonas Cohrs
Co-Founder, Aura Intelligence
Julian understood right away what it was about and built the automation we wanted very efficiently. Fast and reliable.
Carsten Bruns
Managing Director, Sounity
Working together
I prefer long-term partnerships. Here’s what you get:
- One person to talk to
- From the first process sketch to monitoring. No handoffs between five vendors.
- I know your business
- Every month I understand your processes, data and edge cases better. That makes every next change faster.
- Operations included
- Monitoring, fixes and ongoing improvements are part of it, not just the first launch.
- Start small
- We begin with a clearly scoped first step on your real data and expand what proves itself.
Projects
When I’m missing something, I build it. Some of it you can use too.
PastefastmacOS app
Everything you've copied sits on a shelf at the bottom of the screen and is searchable in a millisecond. Including text from screenshots.
pastefast.appAskTNTWeb app
Ask the full archive of Training und Therapie (TNT), the Wolfgang Unsöld podcast. Every answer is backed by the matching passages from the episodes.
asktnt.deMuscle Nerds KBWeb app
Search across Luke Leaman's podcast appearances. Every result shows the chapter of the original episode it comes from.
musclenerds.kaiserlich.devNtfyBarmacOS and Linux
Server alerts in the menu bar. A native client for ntfy, whether ntfy.sh or self-hosted, with one inbox per topic.
GitHubpi extensionsnpm packages
Four extensions for the pi coding agent: search across all sessions, a skill palette, a message queue and reminders that live in the session.
GitHubWachturmRails app
Web analytics without cookies, without banners and without personal data. Self-hosted, one SQLite file, runs on all my sites.
wachturm.jksr.devcoach.Web app
My own training platform for a coach and their athletes. The coach plans against weekly volume, the athlete logs offline on their phone, and every set feeds the next plan.
coach.jksr.devTablefastmacOS menu bar app and CLI
Opens SQLite files on remote servers in TablePlus. A local Postgres proxy in Rust that passes queries over SSH to sqlite3 on the server.
Writing
How I work with agents. What works and what doesn’t.
Der Agent ist nur ein Ordner (German)
One folder per client, an AGENTS.md, a few skills. No frameworks, no swarms. Why that works.

A Full Stack Migration in One Day
Out with Postgres and React, in with SQLite and Hotwire. 37 iterations, 134 tests as a safety net, one day.

Dein Wissen gehört dir. Du kannst es nur nicht benutzen. (German)
I deleted every notes app. Markdown, local search and agents that search my courses and meetings.

About me
I’m Julian, a software developer in Hamburg. I studied business, learned to code in 2017 and then worked at Resourcify and Just Software, most recently as tech lead of a team of six.
I’ve been self-employed since 2023. For my clients I’m usually the one person who owns everything: the ERP integration, the agent on the phone, the monitoring, the deployment. That’s how I like to work.
I work almost entirely with agents now (German post). They write a lot of the code, I make the decisions and check what goes live. AI makes building much faster. It doesn’t do the thinking for me.
My goal is a small, calm business that gets more done with AI than companies with lots of staff. I want the same for my clients.
For a while I lived on Madeira, first with my brother, later with my girlfriend. That’s where our love of nature and hiking really grew. Our hikes are on Hiking Nomads.
When I’m not at the computer, I’m lifting or outside with the dog. I take training seriously enough that I’m a YPSI coach with an A license and go to every Muscle Nerds seminar.
What matters to me
- Prove it, then build it.
- Before I fix something, I show that it’s broken. A green health check doesn’t mean something works.
- The smallest change that works.
- No workarounds, no overengineering. Boring tech that someone will still understand in two years.
- You own everything.
- Code, data, accounts. No dependence on me, or on software you don’t actually need.
- Calm, not hectic.
- Few clients, for a long time, done properly. I want to understand how your business runs, not churn through tickets.
- Turn off what doesn’t help.
- Even if I built it myself. A feature nobody needs costs something every day.

Common questions
- Where does our data live?
- Wherever you want. By default on servers in the EU, or on your own if you prefer. I pick models per task, including providers with EU hosting and models that run locally.
- What if the AI makes things up?
- Then the system notices. The model extracts and writes, code checks the result against your rules, and unclear cases go to a human. Every error becomes a new test case.
- What happens when it breaks?
- Monitoring tells me, usually before anyone else notices. In a partnership, fixing it is part of the deal. Without one, you have code, docs and runbooks that any developer can pick up.
- Do we depend on you afterwards?
- No. Code, repos and accounts are yours from day one. I build with boring, widely used tech so it keeps running without me.
- What does it cost to run?
- We measure that per case before scaling up. Usually it’s cents per transaction. If a process doesn’t pay off, I’ll tell you up front.
Show me the problem.
30 minutes, free. You tell me what’s getting in the way, I tell you honestly whether and how AI can help. Even if the answer is no.
